"A man is not dead while his name is still spoken."

This place feels like like how IRC does at the moment; a husk of its
former glory. I don't think it's going to die any time soon; but I also
don't particularly think that there's much chance of a recovery to its
glory days.

But, for all the /years/ of folk claiming that it's dead and gone (And
haven't they been doing that even through its peak?); it still lives on
in the hearts and memories of its members.

And each and every one of those members, past or present, will live on in
the hearts and memories of their friends.

It died a long time ago. I know... I was there.

All these many years later, my friends are scattered to the winds and the vultures have picked these bones clean.

Build something new, friend. This place has no more purpose than a graveyard.

All lured away many individual and incompatible baubles that offer up
the illusion of instantaneous contact/response -- rather the easy, delayed
access, of NNTP.

One more bauble to attract a splintered populace.

I thought it was more spam and trolls driving people to moderated forums.

Actually, it was due to many ISPs dropping USENET access, due to a
fear-mongering campaign and a lawsuit alleging USENET of being a haven
for illegal activities.

AFF and ALF were doing fairly well when the Fur servers were still
linked -- and peered to the main AFF/ALF usenet servers. When the critter
server lost peering, then things fragmented (from my viewpoint) -- some
posts would be on critter, some posts would be available via my ISP.

Hey, are there any furry-run servers left? Any place to get the fur.*

Critter was the only one I used, and after a system failure the new
server was never put back on line, as I recall.

When the mainstream *net gets heavily censored, this place, and the
telnet BBSes are going to make a HUGE comeback.
